"SUBARU" is a Japanese word meaning "unite", as well as a term identifying a cluster of six stars, which the Greeks called the Pleiades - part of the Taurus constellation. Founded as Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. in 1953, the company's first vehicle was a motor scooter rather than a car. The first Subaru automobile was the 360, then came the FE Subaru and the FF Series.
Subaru vehicles have been imported by Subaru Australia since 1973. Since 1998 Subaru Australia vehicles have been exclusively All-Wheel Drive.
